I called Erin Mendenhall’s office (Mayor of Salt Lake) and the woman who answered said she would check into this and let me know more by tomorrow. I also called Jenny Wilson’s office (mayor of Salt Lake County) and left a message. I am interested in finding out how to oppose this travesty. I will be checking back here regularly to connect with people who would also like to protest this.

Talk to them about the effects it would have on infrastructure like water, electricity, use of hospitals or other resources that are there for the local population. There's now legal precedent to block these facilities on those grounds if you weren't already aware. (See Maryland ruling).✌

Isn't it just a temporary like 14 days pause, and not a "block"?

Diane Crim's avatar

A representative from Mayor Mendenhall’s office just called me back and said that her office is aware of this purchase and is working to find out the details and respond. I continue to look for other people here in Salt Lake to collaborate with and keep this travesty from happening. Change reality!

This is so disgusting that our state of Utah would reach an all new low🤬🤬

Thank you, Diane. Eager to hear from you.

There is a protest against the ICE Warehouse at the Governor’s Mansion at noon tomorrow (Tuesday, March 17) in SLC as welll as another at the actual Warehouse at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18.

These are not normal Templar detention centers, but concentration camps modeled after Natzi camps used by Germans to hold Jews during WW2! ICE has incarcerated people of all ages without their Constitutional Rights. Trump endorses these facilities and is no better than the prosecutors of the Jews.

Sharon Lee's avatar

I don't get it. How could they get away with lying like that. They did the same thing to us in Roxbury New Jersey. Why do they need so many detention centers? What is the plan to all of this? What happens to all these buildings when all is said and done? Who profits on these properties with the vast improvements they're doing too?

We’re issuing a correction. The original information we received showed that Ritchie Group was a stakeholder in the LLC that sold the property to ICE. After breaking the story, we received new information that contradicted the original claim. We could not independently verify either, and felt it best to retract the connection to Ritchie Group and focus on RREEF CPIF.

lynn carey's avatar

They are getting ready for you and me. Concentration camps…..

Sharon Lee's avatar

That would be when about the revolution starts here within the US. They won't take me without a fight. LOL

Jamie's avatar

They did that with the border wall, broke all the laws to build it.

"They’re violating the Rivers and Harbors Act, the Clean Water Act, the Solid Waste Disposal Act, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act..."

Fuck this cuntry tis of hell. Utah, and Trump and LDS.

Thousands upon thousands of my people are dead, and part of me has died with them. Yet, I still have enough life to be ashamed of this world, of its indifference, of everyone who has watched and not internalized the violence we scroll past so easily.

And somewhere in the last few months I have went on autopilot and I haven’t found the switch to turn it off. And underneath all of it, a voice that has been screaming for two years: it is not normal to carpet bomb cities full of people. Every person under those bombs was a universe, and those universes are being snuffed out by people who have made a deliberate choice not to see them as human.

I went to a qiyam last week and the sheikh talked about Al-Latif, اللَّطِيف, and I sat in the back row and tried to feel what I was supposed to feel. Al-Latif. The Gentle. The one whose care operates beneath the surface of things, bringing benefit and deflecting harm in ways you cannot see and are not meant to see. Tawakkul, he said. Trust, a surrender that requires everything from you. The man to my left was crying. I watched his shoulders move and I thought: I used to be able to do that. I used to cry in qiyam. Now I sit with my hands on my knees and I wait for something to happen.

(State of Siege)

Lebanon is burning… again. Iran buried 171 children from an elementary school this week, children who had nothing to do with anything except being alive on a Saturday morning when the US and Israel decided this was the week for regime change. Gaza’s Rafah crossing closed the moment the bombs started falling on Iran, because there is always a new use for the leverage of starvation. The world allowed Gaza, so the world will allow this too. Gaza was the proof of concept. Now the cancer knows what it can do, and it is metastasizing everywhere at once, during Ramadan, while I make soup and try to remember how to feel something that isn’t exhaustion.

That’s where I am this Ramadan.

I prefer to break my fast alone, and I make the same soup every night, lentil, because it’s what my mother made and because chopping onions is something my hands know how to do without my brain having to be present for it. I sit down and I eat and there are three people at my table who did not RSVP. Guilt is the one I know best by now, the one who has been living with me for two years and has stopped apologizing for taking up space. Bitterness arrived sometime around month six and never left. And then there’s anger. I used to describe it as grief that learned to stand up straight, used to treat it like a phase. It has not metabolized, in fact, it has done the opposite. It has put its name on the lease. There is a hatred that has taken up permanent residence in me and I am not sure I want it to leave anymore, because at least it is honest, at least it does not ask me to be reasonable about people who are not being reasonable about whether my people deserve to live and who take pleasure in the cruelest ways for us to die. I know what the deen says about anger, about the man who came to the Prophet three times asking for advice and each time was told: do not be angry. I have read that hadith my whole life. I am reading it differently now. I am reading it from inside a world where the anger is the only part of me that has never once lied to me about what is happening.--++ Ahmad

Thank you so much for keeping us informed! You are providing an Invaluable Public Service.

What do they REALLY Plan to do w all these Warehouses-Start Rounding Up Dissidents?! (Us)

Shane Bryant's avatar

Yes... Unfortunately it seems that way.

Aleta G's avatar

C mon Salt Lake - you know Mormons will be rounded up once they run out of brown peoole to terrorize. Stop this!! Go Saltbox!

Sharon Lee's avatar

I am reaching out to Andy Kim and Cory Booker. Both New Jersey congressman. I urge everyone to contact their states, congressman or women and find out exactly why all of these buildings are popping up and being refurbished on our tax payers money. And also to be sure that this isn't a trump real estate investment lining his pockets in the future.

Diane Crim's avatar

Thank you for the information. I will be seeking other humans to rally to oppose this vociferously.

What this shows is that DHS may have learned a lesson that allows them to charge ahead more quickly. The 12 failed sales were almost all individual privately owned companies with local reputations at risk. Communities including Salt Lake City were able to pressure them to not sell to ICE. Salt Lake is obviously important to their strategy so when they couldn't buy from a private company they turned to RREEF CPIF, a Delaware LLC without local ties.

How do we stop this madness ? Do I have to leave this country ? I don’t want to live in a country that wants to build concentration camps

BigEyes14's avatar

The property was a bank owned foreclosure, duetsche bank. Not the mormons.

Joan Thorpe's avatar

What a reversal. All these detention centers are circumventing proper notification and zonining channels.

Why oh why do they need these in all the states? Definitely looking like they general population will be rounded up. This must be stopped. Vote in the midterms.

Jamie's avatar

This is very threatening. Where are 7,500 people going to come from for

imprisonment? If it is private contracted, they lose money on empty beds,

and are pressured to fill them ASAP. Vegas has a facility, and Denver,

so this is only for Utahns? Idaho too? Texas' large facilities get people

from other places like Minneapolis, but why would they try and send people from

the other side of the mountains here? Wasn't the Chicago surge,

"Midway Blitz", they only bragged about abducting 1,600 people ?

Now they want to do 5 times that in Utah? This is going to be a s*** storm

like no other. Keep them how long? 6 months? That means fill it twice a

year? 15,000 people?? Our streets will be so violent,

our businesses will lose employees, and everyone will go into hiding,

our whole city will start to shut down. Anyone?

Leave it to that dirty Mormon infested state to broker deals for another concentration camp.

Oh, god, the same old smear -- bigoted and uneducated! Fuck, man, you are part of a baby-killer religion, just admit it.

Is this cunt still a Mormon? I know he went to Starbucks a while back. Dirty dirty people, Mormons, and your fucking famous cunt?

Mitt Romney has consistently maintained a strong pro-Israel stance, advocating for Israel's right to self-defense against Hamas, which he has described as a terrorist organization using civilians as "human shields". During the 2023-2024 conflict, he placed responsibility for civilian deaths in Gaza on Hamas, not Israel. His views have often been critical of Palestinian leadership, including 2012 comments suggesting cultural differences impacted economic disparities and stating Palestinians were not interested in peace. Fucking former bishop, uh? Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith has deeply shaped his personal conduct, leadership style, and public image, acting as both a defining aspect of his life and a point of scrutiny during his political career.
