The American arm of the Montreal-based security company has taken in more than $330 million this year to convert warehouses into detention space in Texas and Arizona, where the work is now on hold.
I second the commendation - excellent reporting. Can only add that I wonder if Sir will find a way to slap tariffs on this company and other service-provider businesses, as opposed to those that produce "stuff". Would be fun for a journalist to ask him with the cameras running....
Before pointing fingers at our Canadian brothers and sisters, perhaps most have no idea of this agreement. How many Americans actually know the details of our present regime in the White House? How quickly we forget that Canadians fought beside our troops. 🕊
GardaWorld has a bad safety record. Hundreds of people injured. Faulty breaks in their armored cars. Missing seatbelts.
I would not want to have anything to do with them, and this is one more reason. What do other customers think of doing business with a company that is engaged in such deplorable work?
The American branch of the company would be run largely independently, even with headquarters in Canada. However Gardaworld headquarters does need to have constant pressure applied and negative press to reduce the role it's American branch plays in ICE. The private prison system in the States allows for such a high magnitude of abuse, and high profits. A business like that makes massive amounts of money in a country with the highest incarceration rate in the world. Of course if ICE did not exist the money would have to be made elsewhere.

I am surprised that a Canadian Company would have any part of ICE! It seems as though ICE has way too much power, influence and taxpayer money!
