Three bills moving through the House of Delegates would set new rules for immigration detention in Maryland — if they can survive a legislative calendar that is already running out.
Go Maryland, show us how its done. When ICE set up its first concentration camp in western Washington, it was undercover and stealth, as if in the dead of night. It was so unlike anything we'd heard. A second concentration camp is nearly agreed upon in Spokane, and am hoping the people there will rally around and stop it. I'm hearing good things from the RESISTANCE. Fingers crossed.
Apparently they are also renting office space everywhere. Is it possible to add that to your list and map? I know it's asking a lot and I'm sorry for that. But too many places are requiring subscriptions and I can't afford them all.
I have family in Hagerstown. This warehouse should Not move forward. Period. If you think it should, answer this: Why so they need warehouses if they are just going to deport illegal immigrants? Who will be in there? You won't like that answer.
A comment and a question: Thank you so much for your good work and research!
Are you able to find contracts for the "building out" of warehouses that have already been bought by the feds? If so, resisters could focus on exposing and shaming and boycotting those businesses. I have read this has worked with some of the "sellers" of warehouses.
Thanks for doing all this work to keep us informed -- the decision in Washington County Maryland literally happened in the dead of night with little time for local people to consider let alone respond. We aren't getting a lot of information up here except for what is coming out of you all so please keep it up - it is helping us to organize our efforts up here. They know their target: we are a largely rural county that is pretty conservative; high unemployment and underemployment and a pretty sizable professional detention community. Unfortunately, a lot of good folks don't see the hidden costs in lost tax revenue or the other kinds of infrastructure issues such a facility will bring - nor the moral hazard the facility offers, and the threat greater DHS presence poses to our immigrant community.
Appreciate your comprehensive explanation of ICE plans for detention centers in MD and the legislative efforts to stop them. Makes it much easier to track the issue and take action.

They’re on the map! They show up as the blue dots around the country.
