At least 20 communities are being targeted for massive ICE detention centers — warehouses converted into makes-shift prisons for migrants, many of whom have committed no crime and may never receive due process before being locked inside. Rather than pursue real public safety solutions, Trump, Stephen Miller, and Kristi Noem have fueled a fear-based campaign that uses immigration as a cover for sweeping, racialized deportation. Between aggressive raids and expulsions to countries people have never even seen, we are living through a homegrown humanitarian crisis.

Thank you for telling the world about what happened here in Lebanon. While we applaud Blackburn for stepping up, I don’t trust her. If she becomes Governor, I believe she will let Miller and Trump put a mega detention center anywhere they want. We will keep fighting this.

The back and forth continues. Also for reference Marcia Blackburn has always been a huge piece of shit, ever since she was a state legislator. Like this is where we are at with the mother f*ckers. They show intense support for Trump even though the are NIMBY. She praised Christie Noam’s work to locate the center elsewhere, while simultaneously trumpeting the great immigration enforcement work ICE is doing. I bet she’s lying to the people.

It truly feels like DHS runs on fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

This is another really impressive piece of reporting on the state of play. Near as I can tell, these facilities are intended to house individuals for long periods of time. Why anyone would want to do that, unless their business model was to keep as many beds filled as possible, is hard to understand. Surely if they really wanted to ship people out as rapidly as possible, these would be short term stays, just 2 or 3 nights before they were put on a plane or a bus to wherever. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Presumably the business plan is viewable... ? or not?

What I'm particularly curious about now is how the planners are determining the appropriate size and make up of the medical facility that would be overseeing the health needs of the prisoners. Are they prepared to deliver babies and care for newborns? Deal with chronic diseases? Are the taxpayers paying for all the medications the prisoners would normally receive to maintain their health? How are the medical costs funded? Does the facility have an account as if it were a VA or ? Are the community medical facilities that will be expected to service the prisoners being given any notice so that they can staff up? Or does the prison itself have a complete hospital and staff on site? Is anyone at Saltbox looking at this aspect in particular?

Pro Publica is doing excellent reporting on the lack of medical care, schooling, well, just about everything, at DHS facilities. CF:https://www.propublica.org/article/life-inside-ice-dilley-children

I live in Lebanon, TN in Wilson County. This is a real mess. There are MANY more going to show up next time. Wilson County has the second highest per capita income in the state. The people of this area absolutely do not want this anywhere in the area!

see nothing but Republicans holding major offices in your county. Maybe that's the problem.

Will the owner of the facility, DHS, pay property taxes and compensate the city and county for the increased services demanded by this sudden population surge? How many ICE employees will be required to operate such a complex? And who would want these thugs as neighbors ?

No the federal government is exempt from paying property taxes. They're claiming 4,000 employees. Part of what appears to be happening is that federal penitentiary employees are being lured away by the higher wages of DHS, so it's likely that these aren't jobs for current residents but would be new residents.

They are CAMPS, not detention centers, they are planning on housing people there!!

from wikipedia: On election night, Tennessee voted Republican for former president Donald Trump by a wide margin for the third time in a row, with him winning the state by 29.7%, a considerable increase from his 23.2% victory in 2020 and to a lesser extent his 26% victory in 2016.[3] He received more than 1.96 million Tennessee votes which was a record for votes cast for any candidate in state history.[4] This is the best performance from a Republican candidate for a presidential election in Tennessee since Richard Nixon's 37.9% victory in 1972. From me: you get what you ask for. Unfortunately so do the rest of us.

Why don't people call them concentration camps? Same thing ... concentrate potential deportees... Dachau was the first. Though the original was British (for concentrating Boers) ...
