ICE keeps losing public fights in the Hudson Valley, so it’s now expanding through quiet warehouse leases. This isn’t “office space.” It’s detention infrastructure slipped in under the radar.
The Baker family which owns NRDC is friends with Jared Kushner. NRDC bought Lord & Taylor in 2006 & ran it for 13 yrs before selling it for parts. Then in 2008 they bought Canadian dept store chain Hudson Bay, which was offloaded in 2024 and liquidated soon after. NRDC owns Saks Fifth Ave, now bankrupt and after being ladled in debt. They bought Neiman Marcus and sold the land beneath those stores in San Francisco and Beverly Hills. NRDC buys these companies by getting financing for the valuable real estate. The retail operations have been separated with disastrous consequences. Some 50,000 people have lost their jobs; small designer companies are owed hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The Republicans are pure Evil. It’s not just Trump. This is decades of planning by Republicans to take over the government and make it a complete fascist and theocratic government. They have never relinquished bringing back the fascist Confederacy.
Organize locally. Look at the Zoning map and written zoning code for your jurisdiction. Identify locations they may seek and why.
Then look at the process for getting permits approved in your jurisdiction. Do you have a planning commission? Be prepared. Be polite. Don’t assume that elected officials are in favor of this.
Start early. By the time they bring it to a public vote, the camel’s nose is already under the tent.
What is exceedingly maddening is that our legacy news is NOT adequately reporting on these ICE detention facilities. Is X? Is FaceBook? Is Instagram? I dont use social media- but I do subscribe to many on Substack. Thank you for staying on top of this, Project Salt Box.
